Mao(1) Bao [13201] The Mao clan's ancestry include the Mao editors of the Classic of Poetry (Shi). The Song clan (zong) that settled ultimately in Jizhou, Jishui county was descended from Bao (Renming Da cidian, p. 72), who through military merit during the Western-Eastern Jin transition during the Yongjia period, was appointed Lujiang Taishou. A descendant moved to Quzhou, Xishan county, and a descendant of this person moved to Jizhou, Jishui county. This ancestry is based on Yu Jing, WJ, 20.16a, 18b-19a, and 20.20b-21a and Yang Wanli, 128.3b (which has an 8th generation ancestor who was an executive censor serving in the Southern Tang administration, who is presumably the same person as Mao(1) Xun's [13225] great grandfather, Xiu [13303], who moved from Quzhou, Quxian to Jishui county). The biographical material on the Quzhou branch does not include this earlier ancestry, but marriage w/ Tianshui Zhao, the convergence of generational names of Jishui Mao(1) Xun and Tuan [13224], and Quxian Mao(1) Pang [3672], Jian [1356], Xie [13217], etc. suggesting reaffirmation of ancestral links as well as the senior status of the Jishui branch all confirm this identification.
