Wang(1) Wenhe [15621] This is the penultimate ancestor of nearly all Wang(1), who moved to Xinan following a term as Kuaiji magistrate in the Jianan period of Latter Han (196-219). He was fleeing the disorders of the time and his descendants consitituted a distinguished lineage (wangzu) of Xinan (see Renming Da cidian, p. 473). According to Lou Yue, WJ, 88.1b, while their ancestry began from the time of the Yellow Emperor, not one was illustrious before Song. This is not quite true. A Xinan (or Shejun) Wang(1) Shuju [15622] was a Sima under the Liu Song dynasty and his son, grandson, great grandson and great great grandson all held office into Tang (Huizhou FZ, 7.2a-2b, 8.1a). Again, according to Lou(2) Yue, all the Poyang, Shangrao and Mingzhou Wang(1) are from this basic root lineage and include Wang(1) Boyan [8142], Wang(1) Bo [8141], Wang(1) Che [8140], Wang(1) Yingchen [1759] and Wang(1) Siwen [1748]. Further details will probably be available after I CHECK the many funerary inscriptions in the Xinan wenxian zhi. I am going to treat the pre-Song Xinan Wang(1) (who cannot be traced to a specific Song family) as members of Wenhe's root lineage. Each Song Wang(1) lineage that cannot be linked will be recorded as a separate Shejun Wang(1) lineage, with the earliest identifiable member being identified as a lineal descendant of Wenhe. |
