Shi(6) Zongben [16548] Illiterate son of a Shaowu farmer (nongjia), he became the founder of the Danxia chanyuan (Chan temple) of Taining county, immortalized in the stele by Li(2) Gang [8078] and his disciple (or student), Huiyin [16531], was the #3 son of Zhou(1) Shihou [7194], whose father-in-law was Fan(2) Zhongwen [7214] and who was one in a long line of distinguished Yinxian Zhou(1), related by marriage to numerous distinguished families. The cloister, perhaps, was the most egalitarian of Song insitututions. CBD, 5, 4400. |
