Yu(11) Cheng [19381] I am identifying all the Yu(11) as Suzhou residents and as members of the same lineage. Bao [4130], who was implicated as the partner of Zhang(2) Yan [3190], who was falsely accused of counterfeiting by Zhu(1) Mian (not in dataset) and purged, was probably a lineage (third) cousin of Cheng. I am identifying Zao [19383] as a cousin: (Zao's title cannot be explained unless a Yu(11), senior to him, held office and Cheng is the only candidate), was the son-in-law of Gu(3) Fuji [19380]--son of Gu(3) Lin [935], who was purged as a Yuanyou dangren--has the same generational name as Cheng. The affinal linkage between the Shaoxing Gu(3) and the Suzhou Yu(11) and factional linkage with the Suzhou Zhang(2) would help explain the false charges. Yu(11) Yi [19385] is identified as a migrant from Fuzhou, Xiapu county, but his grandfather Chong [19384] was buried in Suzhou, which may indicate a move from Fujian during the generation of Cheng and Bao. I make Chong a lineage (third) nephew of Cheng and Shichun [19382], a Wuxian 1097 jinshi, as a son. I am also identifying the Wuxian Yu(11) as jia 'a' and the Kunshan Yu(11) as jia 'b.' The purge may explain the move from Wuxian to Kunshan. YLDD, 2368.4a. |
