Li(2) Zeng [20017] According to his record of conduct, Zeng was roughly versed in all the classics, but was particularly learned in the Zuzhuan commentary on the Chun Qiu. 'From the establishment of prohibitions against the scholarly methods (xueshu) of the Yuanyou [coalition members], nothing could be read but except what was written by born Wang(2) [i.e. Wang(2) Anshi] and even though the prohibitions were slightly relaxed during the Xuanhe period, the scholars of distant regions were accustomed to whwat they had learned and there was as yet no complete transformation.'
