Shi(4) Geng [21072] Fujian TZ, 147.17a. Shishi zupu has a Geng (mingzi slightly different, but same biography as TZ), who is identified as either a son or nephew or cousin or brother of Xuan(3) [21067] and as uncle of Fen(2) [17163] or as father of Fen, who is identified as a younger brother of Hongqing [16423], who was a son of Xuan [21069] (jinshi 1063), and who is listed in genealogical table as the father of Xuan(2) [21073], uncle of Qizong [21074] and the ancestor of one branch of the Taiwan Shi(4) who compiled the genealogy. This would make Xuan(2) a grandson of Xuan, rather than nephew (Fujian TZ identification), which makes much more chronological sense. I will identify Geng as a second nephew of Xuan(3) and Hongqing and Fen as sons of Xuan. Fen would then be the father of Lin [17405] and Lin, father of Qizong, whereas Hongqing would be son of Xuan and father of Xuan(2), which is mostly in accord with the genealogy and makes most chronological sense. According to Shishi zupu, 'shuo,' p. 3, Geng was born in 1024, earned his jinshi in 1050 (sic? 1049) and died in Yuanfu (sic? Yuanyou) 9 or 1094. His wife, born Du, was born in 1026 and died in 1077 and they were buried together. It is clear that the genealogy used by the compilers of the Shishi zupu was using sources independent of the Fujian TZ's sources and that most of these must have been funerary writings. The differences as well as the similarities with data in Fujian TZ provides a basis for confidence in the accuracy of the genealogy. CBD, 2, 417. |
