Cao Zu [21670] The sources for the CBD entry on Zu mix up the biography of Cao Si's [1668] grandfather and that for Wei's [15268] younger brother. CBD also identifies Wei as a Yingchang person based, probably, on Zu's identification as one. Si's grandfather earned the jinshi, after several tries, in 1121, whereas Zu received an initial appointment during the Chunxi period (1174-1189) and held office as Tixia Zhizao Yuqian Junqi suo in 1194. The man identified as Zu's elder brother, Wei, is listed in SYXA, 'bubie,' 2.33b as a Wenzhou, Ruian resident, but earned his jinshi as a Suzhou resident in 1172. Cao Bin [21672], A Ruian resident, whose funerary inscription in Liu Kezhuang's collected works, is missing the earlier pages where one would expect to find ancestral information, and is identified as a lineage nephew of Shuyuan [21671], a Wenzhou, Ruian resident, and Bin's 1202 jinshi is recorded for Ruian in Zhejiang TZ and for Suzhou in Suzhou sources, as is true for Bin's son, Yulao [21673], and Bin's nephew, Liangdu [21674]. The conclusion I draw from this is that a lineage uncle of Shuyuan, Wei (whose jinshi is only listed for Suzhou), moved to Suzhou (or his immediate ancestors did) from Wenzhou. Subsequently, Bin (or possibly Bin(2)'s immediate ancestors) also moved to Suzhou. There is no basis for identifying Zu's actual residence at either place, but I will assume that he lived at the same place as his elder brother. In sum, I identify Wei as a lineage uncle of Shuyuan and as a Wenzhou, Ruian migrant to Suzhou; Zu as a Suzhou resident; Bin as a lineage nephew of Shuyuan and as a Wenzhou, Ruian migrant to Suzhou, and Yulao and Liangdu as Suzhou residents.
