Shi Daren [3723] His first mingzi was Tianren, which he changed once [probably to the Tianni, which Piling zhi, 11.10b uses to identify him in the jinshi list] and then to Daren, all to avoid taboos. Ge Shengzhong identifies Chou [21000] and Yan [21001], respectively Former and Later Han luminaries as distant ancestors, whose descendants were scattered throughout S. China, thereby probably identifying them with the Wuxing Shi (only chrononym for this surname). There is little reason, except for a common surname, to assume a direct link with the immediate ancestor of Daren, unnamed Shi A [21002], who was a Jiangning resident, who moved to Changzhou at the time of the Southern Tang. Daren's unnanmed father held the same office as did Sun Tingchen's [21372] (q.v.) wife's father, Bian [21004], and her grandfather, Xun [21363], has the same posthumous title as Daren's unnamed grandfather, which establishes Bian as Daren's father.
