Liu(2) Kai [15123] This is the penultimate ancestor of the Hejian Liu. He was son of Han Zhangdi (r. 76-88 A.D.) and was enfeoffed in ca. 122 as king of Hejian and settled in Lecheng (Song, Leshou and modern Xianxian). The subsquent history, and segmentation, of this branch of the Han ruling family is traced by Su(1) Song [8116] in his funerary inscription for Liu(2) Zhi's [8089] father, Juzheng [15140] (q.v). According to Su(1) Song, the Liu were a hereditary (shi) distinguished lineage (wangzu) and the descendants of the rulers of the two Han dynasties split into branches that were scattered throughout the empire-- some becoming illustrious (xian) and others sinking into obscurity (hui).
